Individual Counseling, In-Person and Online

There are a number of effective therapies

used for anxiety, OCD, grief & loss, trauma, life transitions, and LGBTQIA+ issues. It is very important to note that styles of therapy are not "one size fits all." I pull from a variety of evidence-based treatments and tailor my approach so that you get what you need and what works for you out of each and every session. Together, we will figure out which forms of therapy make the most sense for you, your life journey, your concerns, and your goals. Here are the therapy modalities I gravitate toward and primarily work from:

  • Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Well-being is often achieved by living a life that feels authentic to who we are and in line with what we need. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a style of therapy that helps you identify personal values and create a life that reflects what you find most important. Together, we will focus on building skills that will help you be mindful and present, let go of what isn’t serving you, accept what is out of your control (and feel empowered by what is!), and to take action toward what you want most in this life.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Coping can sometimes be challenging if we don’t know what skills to use or what techniques to rely on in the moment. Dialectical Behavior (DBT) is a therapy approach that is rooted in specific, concrete, coping skills that teach you how to become more flexible in your thinking, be more conscious and mindful of the present moment, regulate strong emotions, become more resilient in the face of life’s challenges, and nurture and improve your relationships.

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) Perhaps the most important tool we can craft in life is expressing ourselves and our feelings in healthy ways – both on the personal level, and within our relationships. Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) provides the tools needed to safely and effectively understand your emotions and learn to be accepting of and vulnerable with them.

  • Existential Therapy Significant difficult life events sometimes challenge our ideas of who we are and what we believe. Existential Therapy is rooted in answering the “bigger questions” that we often face while on our life journey – questions along the lines of what our purpose and direction.

  • Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP) We often feel stuck if we avoid what we fear, or if we try to protect ourselves from uncomfortable emotions. Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP) is an action-oriented type of therapy that helps you face your fears little by little through repeatedly putting yourself in situations or circumstances that bring about anxiety and other difficult emotions (done at a reasonable pace and with your consent, of course). By facing what you fear, you learn that you are stronger than what you are afraid of, and that you have what it takes to live life in control of your anxiety, and not the other way around.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) No person can be described in one way or by one thing. We all have so many different facets of ourselves and our personalities that are worth knowing and exploring. Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps you heal and feel more connected to yourself and others as you learn about and understand the parts of yourself and your life that make you whole. â€‹

  • Somatic Therapy We cannot outthink what we feel. Somatic therapy techniques focus on becoming aware of and in tune with your physical self so that you can recognize how and when your emotions are present. It is invaluable to understand how your mind and body influence one another, and how your lived experiences are remembered and stored in your body.
